MANRS for Network Operators
Apply NowNetwork operators have a collective responsibility to ensure a globally robust and secure routing infrastructure. Your network’s safety depends on a routing infrastructure that weeds out bad actors and accidental misconfigurations that wreak havoc on the Internet. The more network operators work together, the fewer incidents there will be, and the less damage they can do.
The MANRS Network Operators Program defines the minimum steps network operators like Internet Service Providers should take to ensure the security and resilience of the Internet’s global routing system.
Actions
- Filtering. Ensure the correctness of your own announcements and those from your customers to adjacent networks
- Anti-spoofing. Enable source address validation for at least single-homed stub customer networks, their own end-users, and infrastructure
- Coordination. Maintain globally accessible, up-to-date contact information in common routing databases.
- Global information. Publish your data so others can validate
Implementation Guide
An Implementation Guide documents deployment of MANRS Actions and is targeted at stub networks and small providers. The document also assists in checking if the network setup is compliant with MANRS.
Testimonials
Connecticut Education Network originated as a research & education network and now functions as a Tier 2 ISP for multiple industry verticals. Responsible safeguards on the signaling plane ensure we're not contributing to the spoofing/hijacking problem, and membership in MANRS reflect our commitment to making the Internet a better place for our members and their constituents.
Providing good connections for people requires hard work and, above all, responsibility. MANRS is a vital initiative for the smooth running of the WWW, and it's an honor to be a part of it.
We fully agree with the general guidelines of the MANRS initiative, since we have always ensured our state of the art network follows security best practices. Forthnet believes that improvement of routing security will happen through cooperation and being part of that effort is the right thing to do.
We believe the security, stability, and resiliency of the Internet operation can be improved via distributed and shared responsibilities as documented in MANRS. As one of the largest academic networks in the world, CERNET is committed to the MANRS actions.
Deputy Director, CERNETMantener el internet y la red segura con las mejores prácticas entre los pares, es sumamente importante y brinda un alivio a nuestros cliente y asociados que se mantienen políticas de seguridad en nuestra red con la comunidad de MANRS.
Becoming a member of the MANRS community is a great way to demonstrate Pioneer's commitment to play an active role in maintaining the integrity of the global internet ecosystem.
Coordination and cooperation based on our relationships of mutual trust are the key elements to run the Internet, and we have shared responsibilities to improve the Internet operation. As part of the Internet operation community, IIJ is committed to the MANRS actions.
Director CTO, Internet Initiative Japan Inc.As the registry operator for .com and .net, root server operator for the A and J roots, and root zone maintainer, Verisign is deeply committed to ensuring the security, stability and resiliency of the internet. Routing security is of the utmost importance, and we are pleased to support MANRS, as we have since its inception, in its goal toward promoting a culture of collective responsibility, collaboration and coordination among our peers in the global internet routing system.
Director, Security Strategy, VerisignGigastream is firmly committed to the underlying principles of the MANRS initiative and supports the community's efforts to increase the security, stability and dependability of the Internet. Through our participation in the MANRS initiative we hope to promote these efforts and encourage others to join us in doing so.
Director, Gigastream plcHaving been introduced to MANRS through attendance at LINX 102 we could see that this was a great way for us to be able to benchmark ourselves against recognised best-practice. In addition we benefit from being part of a community of like-minded organisations looking to make the global Internet more resilient and secure.
Kevin Herbert, Operations DirectorSUNET is committed to robust global routing polices and MANRS is one of the best initiatives so far to help out operators with this. We hope with our participation that more of the R&E sector will sign up and live up to the norms. We hope that in the future MANRS will be the standard, not the exception.
Network Architect, SUNETWe agree with the underlying principles of the MANRS initiative and in practice we have always ensured our network complies with the requirements it outlines. A number of recent high-profile cases have reaffirmed the need for such processes and we look forward to the wider adoption of these practices.
