MANRS participant (Y/N): Yes
Biographical Information
I am currently a Distinguished Engineer with Verisign in the Cyber Strategy and Research group under our CSO. I have been with Verisign just over two years now, having spent the first two years in the Architecture organization. My professional career began in 1994 as a UNIX administrator for the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois. There I gained my experience with interconnected systems and the threats posed to them through applications, operating systems and networking components. Later, I worked for Qwest Communications before spending many years in security and networking systems. Throughout my time at Arbor Networks and Deepfield / Nokia I have studied how the Internet works and how it can be measured for consistency and threat detection.
Nominee Statement
For more than 10 years, I have felt the pain that security gaps create, not just for the institution where they originate, but for all interconnected parties affected. One of the greatest contributions to Internet robustness we can offer, is to create well-defined and achievable standards that all connected participants can implement. A best common practice (BCP) must focus on the last word: practice. We must constantly practice to keep policies, procedures and standards in place and working as the rest of the chain evolves around them. I believe that MANRS can be the guide that continues to lead the way in showing the world how we can do our best to secure the Internet. I look forward to contributing in any ways possible with MANRS to further the global initiative of providing routing security.
